“Mom told me to say it was you.”

Something inside me instantly went cold.

When Daniel reached toward my shoulder, I knocked his hand away.

Then I removed my wedding ring from my finger and let it fall onto the floor beside his feet.


His mother immediately started yelling that I was destroying the family.

I looked directly into her eyes.

I didn’t look away.

“No. You did that the moment you decided I was the easiest person to sacrifice.”

Not long afterward, the police arrived.

The security camera in the kitchen had captured the entire assault.

But when the officers reviewed the full recording, they discovered something even more unsettling.

The officer played it from the beginning.


My mother-in-law’s voice.

My voice.

Daniel’s silence.

Then—before I ever entered the kitchen—another conversation.



Daniel and his mother had already discussed the missing money.

They hadn’t merely framed me.
