“That’s enough.”
Mr. Kent turned.
“You want to keep your job?”
She went quiet.
Owen noticed.
He finished cleaning and picked up the box.
Kent inspected the containers.
“This one’s damaged.”
“It’s not.”
“You arguing?”
Owen shook his head.
Kent removed a dessert tray.
“I’m not paying for this order.”
Owen froze.
His mother had spent all morning preparing it.
“Please.”
“Tell your mother to send an adult next time.”
Owen returned to the bakery carrying everything.
Claire saw his face.
“What happened?”
“Nothing.”
“Why is the order back?”
He tried explaining without crying.
He failed.
Claire immediately walked next door.
Owen followed.
Mr. Kent smiled when she entered.
“Claire.”
“You yelled at my son?”
“He dropped product.”
