Part 1: My Husband Moved His Mistress Into My House While I Was Still Bleeding

I was still bleeding when the front door clicked open.

I was on the bathroom floor, trying to change the pad my doctor said I shouldn’t even need anymore.

Three months after giving birth, I could barely stand without holding onto furniture.

Then I heard suitcase wheels rolling over the hardwood I had picked, paid for, and polished while eight months pregnant.

My husband Ethan didn’t even look guilty.

“She’s moving in. I want a divorce.”

He said it like he was changing internet providers.

Behind him stood Sloane Mercer.

Cream cashmere. Soft, smug smile. Like my home already belonged to her.

Our son Noah slept in the bassinet by the couch, completely unaware his family was being erased in real time.

“You heard me?” Ethan asked.

“I heard you.”

I pulled my robe closed.

Sloane glanced toward the nursery.

“This transition will be easier if everyone behaves like an adult.”

I almost laughed.

Instead, Ethan slid a folder across the dining table.

Already marked with yellow tabs.

“The house stays with me,” he said. “My attorneys say your career gap makes custody complicated. So don’t make this ugly.”

My career gap.

As if I hadn’t walked away from forensic accounting for eighteen months to save his failing logistics company.

As if I hadn’t rebuilt it while carrying his child.

My hands were trembling.

But not from fear.

Two weeks earlier, while reconciling our household taxes, I had found something strange.

Payments from his company to a vendor called Northstar Creative.

Vague invoices. A bank account that didn’t belong where it should.

Ethan mistook my silence for collapse.

“Sign the acknowledgment,” he said softly. “It only confirms you received the petition.”

I read every single line.
